What's new

Microsoft Windows Terminal is a new terminal emulator and command line interface tool for Windows 10 and Windows Server 2019. Terminal is built as an alternative to CMD and the design is lead by features that are available in Linux.

Powershell and CMD remain as they are and both are natively available within Windows Terminal. Windows Terminal also supports SSH and WSL.

How does this benefit me?

  • Split pane views
  • Multiple tabs
  • Better text rendering
  • New monospace font for easier reading of text
  • Command pipelines
  • Detailed customisation
  • Opensource, lots of integrations will become available, such as Azure Powershell which is installed by default

What do I need to do?

  • You can download and install Windows Terminal using one of the links below.
  • Datcom will add Windows Terminal as a standard package to all new deployments and auto deploy to Windows 10 and Windows Server 2019 instances over the next several weeks.
